Dr Chitra Chandran

Chitra is a globally recognised leader in the field of child developmental and behavioural disorders.
Her expertise and experience makes her one of Australia’s most in-demand Consultant Paediatricians.
Her postgraduate paediatric training was in New York, where she also completed a Fellowship in Clinical Genetics. Chitra is Board certified in Paediatrics in the USA as well as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She has been admitted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Paediatrics and as an Associate of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
In Australia Chitra has been in private practice in Developmental and Behavioural Paediatrics for over 25 years. For the last 14 years she has been one of three Consultants in the Child Behaviour Clinic at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Prior to this she worked as a Consultant Paediatrician in the Developmental Disabilities Clinic at the Monash Medical Centre.
Chitra has received a number of awards including a medal presented to her by the President of India for community service in the area of children’s health in Indian rural and remote communities.
Chitra is also Founder and Trustee for The East West Overseas Aid Foundation. This Charitable Foundation provides free Health Care, Education and Community Development Services to over 32,000 people in a poor rural community in India. It also provides a Children’s Home for over 50 orphaned and disadvantaged children (www.tewoaf.org.au).
Chitra has two children living and working overseas and a wonderful husband. She enjoys travelling around the world, and also likes to combine her trips with visiting various hospitals and clinics to keep up to date with cutting edge research and development in her field. She is also often invited to speak on child development and behavioural issues at conferences in various countries around the world.
